Types of Cyberattacks and Ways to Deal With Them

November 5, 2021 by Tim Filed Under: General

As the technology is advancing with every passing day, so are the cyberattacks getting smarter in order to attack your system and hack all your business’ important data. Cyberattacks are basically malware or hackers who try to reach the information of your system unethically.

They might attack your system with the help of breaching your network security, which can have a really bad impact on your business and can really put all the private and sensitive data of your company at great risk.

So, here are some of the most common types of cyberattacks and the proper ways to deal with them in an efficient manner.

Types of Cyberattacks

Phishing

Phishing is one of the most common cyberthreats, and this term is used to describe the procedure when some unethical person tries to reach out to the private information or data of a company by pretending to be a legit enquirer.

What happens in this process is that a malicious person or company might try to find information by using several different fake means of communication in order to gain the login credentials or any other sensitive data.

How to deal

  • By doing a compromise assessment, you can find the loophole in your network security.
  • Try to update all the software and IT equipment and install it with all necessary security software.
  • If you have fallen for the scam, you can also contact the cyber authorities in your state to get a  solution to the issue.

Trojans

Trojan viruses are also one of the many types of cyber threats, and as you can guess by the name, Trojan viruses are the ones that can invade the private information or sensitive data of your company by a disguise that you won’t know.

They might look like a regular application or a file in order to trick you into believing it and run it on your system. Once it gets access to your system, it can certainly be so dangerous that it can disable all your antivirus programs and download more malware into your system.

How to deal

  • Try to avoid downloading any kind of software or program file from an unknown or unauthorized source.
  • Make sure that all your browsers, antivirus programs, operating systems, etc., are updated on time.
  • Never run any kind of applications or software, or open any type of attachment from an unknown or untrustworthy source.
  • If a Trojan enters your system by any chance, you can contact a professional IT person for help.

Ransomware

As the name suggests, ransomware might be exactly what you have thought. It is the kind of malware or cyber threat that locks down the victim out of their system and important files that contain sensitive information of the company.

Most of the time, the attacker encrypts these files and then asks for a certain amount of money from you in exchange for the decryption key or code. For this very reason, it is one of the biggest cyber security threats that can leave your business in a great loss.

How to deal

  • Make sure you have installed antivirus software and all your networks are properly secure to share your files through them.
  • Set up security measures in your devices so that only authorized persons can have access to your applications and data.
  • If you somehow still fall prey to this dangerous cyber threat, try to disconnect the affected device from the network immediately and get help from the IT department.
  • You can also notify the authorities about the security breach and never pay them the ransom after making sure higher organizations are informed about the situation.
